My friend rddantes and I were fortunate enough to have been invited to one of the most awaited events in the Philippines, the Mossimo Bikini Summit. The event was hosted by the ultra-witty Asia Agcaoili (who, I should, say was very stunning and daring in her choice of outfits); and was graced by Fil-Am R&B singer, Amber. This year, the slightly chubby Andrew Smith joined Brent Javier (2003), Marco Grazzini (2004), Einar Ingebrigsten (2005) and Jerome Ortiz (2006) in the Mossimo Bikini Summit’s Circle of male winners. His runners up were: John Lopez (1st runner-up) and Al Galang (2nd runner-up). Rounding up the top 6 were: Aaron Canlas, Bo Rivera and Zachi Uy. The special awards were given out to: Adrian Racho (Mr. Photogenic) and Bo Rivera (Mr. Zunic Best in Swimwear).

Personally, I thought the show started off well. The female and male contestants, clad in streetwear strutted their stuff on the ramp in the opening number. They, then, changed into conservative but stil sexy swimwear. After Amber’s short number, the contestants paraded the stage in white, almost see through bikinis, which definitely sent the audience members’ hearts racing. I was enjoying every minute ot the show (with Asia Agcaoili’s games and funny antics livening up the show during gaps). However, when the top 6 were announced, I was definitely disappointed. All the guys I was rooting for didn’t even make it to the final 6! (My bets were Adrian Racho, Kim Gantioqui, Mark Loyola and Haroun Morales) I really don’t understand how these contests work.

For me, Mossimo Bikini Summit is definitely losing its steam. After 6 years of celebrating the beauty of the male and female forms (this year, I think they just considered the beauty of the face and not the body), they should probably rethink of another event to hype up the brand.
