William Thio: Soft-spoken Hunk
|
William Thio was a popular model in the late 1990s. He, like hunks Robin Da Roza, Matthew Mendoza and Senatoriable Migz Zubiri, debuted in the industry by way of a Close Up TV Commercial (video below). Several print ads and tv commercials soon came his way after this and in no time, he was one of the more recognizable faces on television. He put a temporary halt to his successful modelling career and went on hiatus for a while to study in the US almost certain that when he returns to Manila he could resume his work. To his surprise, he had no career to return to. To boost his waning career, he banked on his semi-celebrity status and was able to star in the reality show, “Singles” produced by Ideal Minds, which aired on Channel 5. However, this attempt to revive his career proved to be futile. Soon thereafter, GMA 7 informed him about their plans to do a reality show which would feature formerly successful actors / models and give them a second lease in “showbiz life”. He grabbed the opportunity and was cast as one of the hopefuls in the reality show entitled, 30 Days. He didn’t win in the said show. He, then, ventured into more daring endeavors: he starred in a gay-themed independent film entitled, interm@tes; he appeared in the initial run of the risque musical, All About Men; and he was featured on the cover of gay-oriented magazine, L Mag (together with Bim Cecilio and Jerome Ocampo). Now, still not looking a day over 25, this 33-year old actor / host / model is busy co-hosting in Rosa Rosal’s public service program, Damayan; and is still looking forward to regain the success he once enjoyed.
