Robby Mananquil: Lacking In The Looks Department
|
Hair Color: Black Robby Mananquil is a model from the Philippines who started as a pinch hit writer for his sisters’ column in the Philippine Daily Inquirer. In his first article (if I remember correctly), he wrote about his experiences in Norway as an exchange student and included some pictures of himself with his foster family in the Scandinavian ice paradise. Five years later, I chanced upon a print ad of a familiar face and I told myself that I have seen him before but I don’t remember where. I backtracked a bit and realized that this is the same guy I saw in the Inquirer article but this time, he has grown taller and more muscular. I was amazed to see that he was into modeling. From that time on, Robby has become a fixture in Manila’s major fashion shows. He has also been featured in print ads for Bench and other fashion labels. Robby has also tried acting – he was cast as Perry in ABS-CBN’s soap opera Sana’y Wala Ng Wakas. A few months ago, two of his colleagues, Borgy Manotoc and Wilma Doesnt, (on separate occasions) guested on DJ Mo Twister’s famous no-holds barred radio talkshow. When the two were asked the controversial question: “Who among your fellow models doesn’t look like one?” (or something to that effect) The two were quick to say that it was Robby Mananquil. I read one of the funniest blogs from the Philippines, Bashing101, and it had a feature on PMAP (Professional Models Association of the Philippines) and the Mananquil siblings. Here is his take on Robby: “Robby “Apeman” Mananquil? I think if I’m not mistaken, he made his professional debut in the movie Planet of the Apes. Sure he has the body, but that’s it. You guys ever heard of the term “hipon” to describe men with fab bodies but unexplainable faces? Well si Robby, he’s not even a hipon to me. Lahat itatapon ko. And I even love shrimp! Ganyan sya ka pangit. Syempre, we can’t forget na the reason why they got into the industry is because of their mom, Millet “Queen Amidala” Mananquil.” I think that blogger’s comments on Robby were downright mean, but nonetheless fun to read. There are some more of his pictures after the jump, you decide if he indeed has the right to be called one of Manila’s top male mannequins. |
