Luis Manzano: Newest Addition To The Pinoy Big Brother Family
|
“I Love You, Lucky” – these words were often used by his mother, Vilma Santos, to end her musical-variety show which aired every Friday night on GMA7. And this made the, then little kid, Luis Phillip “Lucky” Manzano a household name in the Philippines. However, the entry of Luis Manzano into Philippine showbiz would come years later. He first entered showbiz in 2002 by being an image model for the Bench sister brand, “Human”. Afterwhich, the nation was caught in a Luis Manzano-frenzy – they couldn’t get enough of the kid who was a product of the union of showbiz royalties Vilma Santos and Edu Manzano. Cosmopolitan magazine immediately featured the hunky Luis as one of its centerfolds for its Cosmopolitan’s Most Eligible Bachelors Issue. ABS-CBN, too, struck while the iron was hot and signed the young star in to be one of the VJ’s for its relaunched music channel, “MYX”. Several other offers started pouring in from the Kapamilya network soon thereafter. In 2004, he became one of the hosts of ABS-CBN shows like ASAP, Star Circle Quest and Qpids. In 2005, he ventured into acting via the sitcom, “Bora: Sons of the Beach” and the fantaserye “Kampanerang Kuba”. Furthering his acting career, also tried doing light dramas and suspense in episodes of “Komiks”, “Your Song”, “Maalaala Mo Kaya”. His first movie, the trilogy entitled “All About Love”, came in 2006 where he starred opposite Anne Curtis. He and Anne shared the screen with other loveteams, Jason Abalos-Angelica Panganiban and John Lloy Cruz-Bea Alonzo. The movie proved that Luis could be a bankable comedic actor and so he was cast in the short-lived teleserye “Crazy For You” which was shot in Barcelona, Spain where he was paired with the ultra-witty Toni Gonzaga. He then reprised his hosting role in Star Circle Summer Kid Quest and did a short stint with his father Edu in a talk show entitled “Tonight With The Manzanos”. He did forgettable roles in some episodes of “Your Song” and in the fantaserye “Rounin”, which made him decide to concentrate in hosting and in doing comedy. In 2007, he was cast in the box-office comedy hit “Ang Cute Ng Ina Mo”, with Ai Ai de las Alas, Anne Curtis, Eugene Domingo and John Lapus. Currently, Luis is one of the hosts of the saturday afternoon showbiz talkshow, Entertainment Live, where he shares the stage with the triumvirate of beauties Toni Gonzaga, Bianca Gonzales and Mariel Rodriguez. Last Sunday, he was ushered in as one the “pluses” as he becomes one of the hosts of Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Plus. |
