Dennis Trillo on the hazards of an actor’s trade
|
After a long wait, Dennis Trillo finally gets his wish to star in his very own fantaserye as GMA7 gives him “Gagambino”, an action-fantasy series adapted from Carlo J. Caparas’s graphic novel of the same name. Contrary to popular belief, its is not loosely based on the Marvel comicbook superhero, Spiderman, but will revolve around the character played by Dennis Trillo and his eight-foot tall spider named “Gagambino”. GMA7 has already acquired the rights to to series from its author way back February 2007, and the Kapuso network originally intended Richard Gutierrez to play the title role. Richard, however, turned the offer down and chose to work on his currently running sci-fi series, “Codename: Asero”. GMA7 shelved the project and decided to proceed with it just recently. Top executives of GMA7 finally picked Dennis Trillo to lead the series, with JC de Vera being another contender for the role. The series is currently under production and is being directed by up and coming director Topel Lee. For the series, Dennis was required to learn three forms of Asian martial arts, namely: wing chun, judo and kendo. Dennis also underwent training for parkour, a French self-defense technique where a practitioner (called a traceur – for males and traceuse – for females) is expected to get over all the obstacles in his way as he would in an emergency. It is a technique where one utilizes his human abilities to move from one point to another as quickly and as efficiently as possible. This is the first time parkour is going to be used in a local TV series. Incidentally, Dennis suffered an accident while performing a stunt using his newly-acquired parkour skills. He fell to the ground and was immobilized for a moment. He was rushed to the hospital immediately after. His X-ray revealed that he only suffered a sprain and did not break any bone in the freak accident. |
