Gabriel Garcia: Gym Enthusiast And Young Entrepreneur
|
Hair Color: Black Gabriel Inigo Garcia is a 21-year old part-time model from Mandaluyong City. Gabriel or “Jiggs”, as he is fondly called by his peers, recently earned his degree of Bachelor of Science in Marketing Management from De La Salle University – Manila. What’s amazing about him is, he was able to finish college on time, itself a remarkable feat, as he balanced his time for studies, modeling and his business. Right after finishing highschool, his parents bought for him a gym as a graduation gift. The gym, which is just a stone’s throw away from his house, already had a clientele when the rights to operate it was offered to him. Its former owners had to give it up due to personal reasons, and Jiggs saw this as an opportunity to earn while he was doing what he loved the most – keeping fit. Upon taking over the business, he rechristened it Muscleworx Gym. At present, the business is doing well and Jiggs has a lot of plans in store for it. Muscleworx did not only open for Jiggs an opportunity to earn, it also got him into modeling. A client in his gym was planning to try out for Mossimo Bikini Grand Prix in 2006. Noticing Jiggs’ potential, the gym-client convinced him to attend the screening. Luckily for Jiggs, he was chosen to be one of the finalists for that year’s run of Mossimo Bikini Summit. However, Jiggs’ “discoverer” was not as fortunate as he is – he did not make it past the screening. Mossimo Bikini Grand Prix was Jiggs’ initial salvo into modeling. In the bikini summit, Jiggs competed with fellow gym aficionados. What separated him from the rest of his co-competitors was the fact that he did not have any modeling experience prior to the contest. He did not win any prize during the finals night, but he gained the experience which would help him in his quest to be a full-fledged model. Immediately after the Mossimo tilt, he was included in Comopolitan Magazine Philippines’ Annual Bachelor Bash for 2006. This was his first major ramp assignment. Modeling stints then came one after the other. In 2007, Jiggs joined another competition, the Century Tuna Superbods Beach Fest in Boracay where he ended up as one of the finalists. Jiggs again tried his luck in modeling competitions via last year’s run of the Face of the Year Quest. He was adjudged first runner up in the pageant. During the shoot, Jiggs told me that he is prioritizing his 9-to-5 job at the moment and, thus, his modeling career has to take the backseat. However, if good modeling offers do come his way, he will not pass up the opportunity as long as his schedule permits. |
