Carl Guevarra on making the right choice
|
After winning grand prize in the male model category of Be Bench: The Model Search, as a part of his contract, Carlo Guevarra was given the chance to be managed by ABS-CBN’s talent management arm, Star Magic, and to appear in ABS-CBN shows. He appeared in “ASAP ’07″, “Kung Fu Kids”, “Dyosa”, “Your Song Presents”, “Kambal Sa Uma” and “Agimat”. However, his shrilly voice deterred him from making career headway. Thus, he was never promoted to matinee idol status in the Kapamilya network, as initially intended. Like most Kapamilya talents who didn’t have projects with their home network, Carlo’s acting services was lent to the then fledgling channel TV5 where he joined the cast of the latter’s teen drama “Lipgloss” as Jose Mari. He certainly got noticed in the show, however, this exposure was shortlived as “Lipgloss” was canceled after just a few seasons. The lack of available acting projects prompted him to move to Perry P. Lansingan’s management group. Under PPL Management, Carlo was made to drop the “o” in his name, thus, he is now known as Carl Guevarra. PPL, likewise, decided to transfer him to the Kapuso network for him to be part of its exclusive stable of stars. He was repackaged as a leading man and was given his first acting job opposite Jennica Garcia inĀ episodes of GMA7′s early afternoon drama, “Dear Friend”. Currently, Carl is on the cover of Men’s Health Magazine Philippines and according to reports, he will be part of the GMA7′s primetime telefantasya “The Last Prince” to serve as the third wheel to the love team of Aljur Abrenica and Kris Bernal. At the rate his career is going, it appears that Carl has made the right choice in becoming a Kapuso. |
