Ivan Dorschner on making a lasting impression

By UPH Administrator | April 10, 2010
Topics: Hunks in the News, Ivan Dorschner, Pinoy Big Brother

Among the guys who entered the Pinoy Big Brother house this season (Pinoy Big Brother Teen Clash of 2010), so far, only one has made a lasting impression on the viewers – Ivan Dorschner. He received the loudest cheers from among the live audience and his (among the boys) was the only name and face that could most easily be remembered by the televiewers. The dashing goodlooks and boyish charm of this 19-year old Filipino-Irish cutie from Los Angeles, California could very well be his ticket to stardom.

Ivan is no stranger to cameras, he has done a bit of amateur modeling back in Los Angeles. He has also made some television appearances in the Philippines in shows such as Wowowee (as a contestant in its “Hep Hep Hooray” segment), Us Girls (as a featured model), and Showtime.

Aptly described as the Striking Stud of Rizal, Ivan could very well be another Gerald Anderson in the making. He has surely gone a long way from being a sales personnel in a Hollister Clothing Co. store back in Los Angeles together with Raymond “Rye” Burgos of Starstruck V. I bet the the powers-that-be in ABS-CBN are smiling right now for finding another possible talent whom they could groom to be their network’s next bankable leading man.

D’ Survivors: An Adventure Of Comedic Proportions

By UPH Administrator | April 9, 2010

From the film’s press release: “Astral Productions, a new adventurous independent outfit, has given young filmmaker Adolfo Alix, Jr. a respite from the real stories he has been churning out since he made his directorial debut via Cinemalaya’s “Donsol,” which was followed by his acclaimed films “Kadin,” “Tambolista,” “Manila,” “Daybreak,” and “Adela” to name a few. Unknown to many, Alix is also one of the writers of the smash comedy hit “D’Anothers” starring Vhong Navarro. For a change, Alix now treats you to a screwball comedy where anything goes and nothing is predictable.

“D’Survivors” is, as the title suggests, a take on the popular reality show of adventurous, young people put in man-made survival and matter-of-life-and-death situations and challenges to test one’s mettle, physical strength, human disposition and character. Interestingly, the present movie was shot in the very same islands where the “Survivor” of other franchise countries are shot- in the pristine Caramoan Islands, CamSur.

On their way to Babuyan Island for a pictorial, a group of models finally finds themselves stranded in an unknown island. Chaos reigns as they try to survive there along with the other survivors.

The current spoof boasts of a breath-taking locale, a paradise island of blue waters, white sands and lush green vegetations; and a handful of beautiful people, mostly supermodels, and talented comedians, who all let their hair down, so-to-speak, and came up with a real-funny rib tickler.

Brazilian heartthrobs Akihiro Sato, Daniel Matsunaga, Fabio Ide with Pinoy hotties Rocky Salumbides, Lemuelle Pelayo, Don Mendoza, Jubail Andres, Aaron Tuiza, and Kerbie Zamora star with newcomer Darlene Anderson and with brilliant support from seasoned comedians K Brosas, Divine Tetay, theater veteran Marife Necessito and comedy royalty Evelyn Vargas, who’s making her comeback.

Director Adolfo Alix, Jr., recently cited by The Hollywood Reporter in its Next Generation Asia List as one of the 20 young movers in the Asian entertainment region (filmmakers below 35), helms this 360-degree turnabout genre which might yet prove an untapped talent of Alix’s in comedy.”

“D’Survivors” opens on April 28, 2010.

Enrique Gil on waiting in the wings

By UPH Administrator | April 9, 2010
Topics: Enrique Gil, Hunks in the News

I bet you’ve seen the latest commercial for Lewis & Pearl cologne and some of you are probably wondering about the identity of the guy whose character has a secret crush on the female lead. The guy’s name is Enrique Gil, an 18-year old Filipino-Spanish commercial model/actor and a member of ABS-CBN’s roster of talents. He is no longer a newbie to the showbiz scene as he was launched two years ago as a part of Star Magic Batch 16.

Prior to getting into showbiz, Enrique was an Information Technology freshman at San Beda College – Alabang. He had to put his studies on hold to concentrate on his acting career. He has since been given acting breaks by his home network, specifically as Krista Ranillo’s brother in the early afternoon teleserye “Pieta” and a guest role in the romantic comedy “George and Cecil”. According to reports, Enrique is set to join the cast of “Kokey @ Ako” as a street kid named “Jet”. “Kokey @ Ako”, which has Vhong Navarro and Toni Gonzaga as its lead actors, is set to be aired this year at a still undetermined airing date.

While waiting for his stint at the environmental-awareness-inspired teleserye “Kokey @ Ako”, you may catch Enrique as he guest stars in tonight’s episode of TV5′s newly-revamped comedy-suspense show “Midnight DJ” entitled “Bata, Langit, Impyerno”. The third picture above features (from left to right) Jon Avila, AJ Dee and Enrique in a scene from the said episode. “Midnight DJ” airs every Friday at 8:00pm on TV5.

Although he has the makings of a matinee idol, based on his acting experience, I think Enrique has to wait a little while longer to reach the stature of the likes of Jake Cuenca, Gerald Anderson and other ABS-CBN primetime male stars. However, he will definitely get there, I’m sure of it. But for now, he has to settle for supporting roles.

Comedy Bar’s Male Beergins

By UPH Administrator | April 8, 2010
Topics: David Guingona, Hunks in the News, Ian Leonel Porlayagan, KC Thadani

Although the cancellation of GMA7′s “Cool Center” closed doors for some, the same opened doors for other , especially through its successor-show “Comedy Bar”. Apart from giving Fabio Ide a venue to practice his hosting skills and for Eugene Domingo and Allan K to hone their comedic craft, “Comedy Bar” is also giving regular television exposures to six models who appeared in a segment entitled “Hubad Na Kasagutan” of the predecessor-show.

The six models (three male and three female), who are labeled as “Beergins” are part of the upcoming show; however, their roles in it and the reason behind their tags are still unclear. The Male Beergins are (from left to right) Ian Leonel Porlayagan, KC Thadani and David Guingona. Will these models be disrobing in this show, as they did previously in “Cool Center”, or will they be serving another purpose? I guess, we should just watch “Comeday Bar” when it airs to find out.
